Hiding

I have a dilemma at hand. For the past 9 years my career choice of being a doctor before becoming a nurse has been a source of "stress" for me. Preparing for medical school all my life then ending up with a nursing degree when I arrived the United States was not what I have planned to do. Now that I'm in Canada, it has been simpler for me to just keep my medical knowledge and skills a secret, so I do not have to explain myself.

However, in the end my surroundings will notice that I am different. My co-worker told me I was just brilliant and she couldn't explain why. I just smile, and accept the compliment.

Well, I can't accept the compliment actually because for myself, being a nurse is not enough. I am happy with my job but I know that I can do more. I can be more.

So my dilemma remains: to disclose or not to disclose myself to people? Funny how it sounds, but I shouldn't be ashamed to be a doctor...

Lord, grant me the humility to acknowledge that everything that I am, everything that I have is because of You. May I honor you in all my days, and, in my journey to become a doctor again, Tou remain to be my inspiration. Amen

The Cardiac Cycle

I'm in one of my favourite libraries in the world... A library inside a mall! How cool is that??
Pros- it's inside the mall.. So I can shop for fabrics in Fabricland.. Visit my dentist in between, get brand new eye glasses at the LensCrafters, eat at the food court with a wide range of choices from burgers to poutines to tacos, you name it!
Cons - it's at the mall so there's a lot of people who comes in and out, from all walks of life, pretty multicultural too..

Well, today I'm going to tackle the Cardiology and CV surgery chapter from Toronto notes. 57 pages.
How long will it take me to finish it? I'll tell you later.
The online resource centre also has a good website recommendation ecgmadeeasy.com. Access for free!

June 2012 - I went back to Canada, as I was being assessed for my Nursing credentials
July 2012 - CARNA required me to take up Math for nurses online, which I finished in 2 weeks
August 2012 - I became a Graduate nurse in Alberta & got accepted at the Grey Nuns
September 2012 - I moved from Vegreville to Edmonton
October 2012 - I took the CRNE
November 2012 - I was officially a Registered Nurse in Alberta
January 2013 - I got accepted at the Critical Care Program
February 2013 - I'm starting with the Orientation Program for Adult Critical Care in Alberta
February 8, 2013 - I sent my credentials to PCRC
February 14, 2013 - I met a Nigerian doctor at the library, who gave me the details for the MCCEE and MCCQE1 exam preparation schedule for Spring at the Bredin institute ...

And the message I received before I went back into blogging ...

"You may feel you're stuck, but get ready. God is about to SHIFT things. Doors are going to open that have not opened in the past." - Joel Osteen

It's giving me the chills.. I'm excited to become a doctor again! :)

Day of acceptance

Hello everyone! I used to have a million excuses and pretensions about blogging and writing what's inside my mind. Today I choose freedom and victory as I embark in my journey to become a doctor again... I have been a doctor at the age of 25 back in my home country. But to pursue my dreams of coming to America, I went through a different medical profession to chase this dream. Stepping stone after stepping stone led me to the corners of Texas and recently, to the ice-capped mountains of Alberta. I am grateful for my short stay in Canada because that was when I had my awakening... Inside my heart of hearts, I still want to be a doctor someday. Even if I finish my residency training at 40 yrs old, I know I have pursued my dream. Being an old IMG (international medical graduate) poses a whole gamut of obstacles itself. The year of graduation, high USMLE scores, financial resources, to name a few of them would be paralyzing itself, hence, not enable me to focus and pursue my dreams. Today I choose to rise above these obstacles and relearn, relive the glory of becoming a doctor. Thank you for this opportunity. Thank you for the strength to follow my dreams. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
